MLB Network Launch Liveblog

http://www.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20090101&content_id=3731108&vkey=news_mlb&fext=.jsp&c_id=mlb

I have been liveblogging the historic launch of our MLB Network all day and night, so join us there and add some comments with your full URLs, like others did.

You might want to do the same, and if you are, please leave your full URL in comments here and on the liveblog itself. I first reported there that Bud Selig was going to deliver the historic “first pitch” and it has been everything I was hoping for and more. Having a blast watching the Don Larsen perfect game, and especially the Gillette commercials!

Mickey Mantle rocks! And I want that “fact-filled baseball encyclopedia absolutely free!”

What a day! Lots of great bowl games, but USC-Penn State is a dud so not really even going back and forth. Focused on Larsen. Cool to see Jackie playing third. You will probably be up in arms by the location of the final “strike” that sealed the perfecto. It’s an incredible event, some really cool new stuff here in the national pastime.

Back to my MLB.com stories. Happy New Year!

- Mark

Mark, I noticed the MLB.com news commenting feature has stopped allowing URLs to be linked. Any reason for that? Is that permanent?

I’m more than pleased that Baseball fans have their own channel finally. Looking forward to seeing the evolution over the course of the season.

Mr. Mark I would let you know my opinion on the new network but I don’t have the cable as I’m moving out in a few! Iwill check it for sure when I get around some though. But I wanted to ask you if you would consider answering questions in a new series I started called “Timeout at the plate” where I take looks at various blogs in the blogosphere? If you are interested just email me back and I can send some over for a future episode.
thanks

I am soooo excited about MLB network and to see Hazel again. I miss seeing her and the Remdawg now that I live in the south. With the MLB on demand and MLB network, like steve_t When will I eat, sleep or leave the house…..Maybe in November. Go Sox!!

Thank goodness they found more than three hours of content. I was getting worried. Lovin’ it. HR is really coming into his own — it’s almost like it’s HIS network.

I just noticed there is no “baseball.mlblogs.com”.

I wonder who will be the first blogger to start thinking inside the box… ;-)

Mark, I’m having an issue. :( My dashboard won’t let me make link lists. Help, please and thank you! By the way, I can’t WAIT to get back to San Diego so I can start watching MLB Network since my dad has AT&T U-verse, which doesn’t yet carry it.

On the Ken Burns deal (meaning running his “Baseball” doc on Tuesdays on MLB Net):
Each “inning” ran 2 1/2 hours on PBS originally. Factor in commercials and promos, and MLB Net takes up (roughly) 3 to 3 1/2 hours…by MY guesstimate.
Still, it SHOULDN’T detract from watching it again these next 9 Tuesdays. Just so y’all know…lol

Glad to see the MLB network! Of course, I switch from Comcast to AT&T at the end of the month, so I’ll have to enjoy it while I can. Happy late New Year!

I watched from sign on until I went to bed and then first thing this morning! I love it! The 1956 game was great to watch and to hear a young Vin Scully. Wow! The only complaint I have is that signal Comcast was receiving in the Detroit Area kept “Hic-Cupping,” and occasionaly pixeling. I hope it gets corrected soon! But, it was still a great day for baseball fans! Great Job!

Hey Mark – thank you so much for keeping us updated all day! It was greatly appreciated! As an “average” fan – can I just say that I was a little disappointed with the launch? I know they are tired cliches, but I was really expecting a “voice-over stadium announcer” to say – “Ladies and Gentlemen, boys and girls” and I thought Bud Selig would end his little speech with “Let’s Play Ball”. I know, I know – really hokie. But as was scrolling on the TV screen – America’s pastime was going live! And I was expecting? Hoping? That is would sound like the start of a game. I am no expert when it comes to launching TV networks – and I am very glad that it did launch, don’t get me wrong! – but since I’m hardly a shy, bashful person I just thought I would let you know this fan’s opinion. Have yourself a nice tall, cold one Mark. You’ve earned it today! And again – Thanks!

Round the clock baseball, baby!
When will I sleep?
When will I eat?
Will I ever leave the house?

OMG!

My brother and I watched the previews of the new channel last week on Christmas Day. It was simply an endless loop of the greatest hits, pitches and catches in MLB history. What an amazing collection of the sights and sounds that have woven their way into our collective consciousness. Looking forward to watching the lovely Hazel Mae, who left NESN for this enterprise.
Play Ball!

First, they need to have the Capitals and Pens do it outdoors @ RFK Stadium before anybody ELSE gets a shot at it…lol
I already wrote a blog just now on the launch. About 1:15 to go until liftoff.
Somehow it looked NATURAL playing hockey @ “the friendly confines” today. Go figure…LMAO

Great story on today’s launch, Mark. Just left a comment there too. I hope the country’s power grid doesn’t blow when everyone turns on their TVs at 6pm tonight!

It worked! WHOO HOO! Thanks for all you do for us Mark! 4 hours left! What a great hockey game! They say there could be one at Fenway in 20011 or 2012! I say Winter Classic & the MLB All-Star game in 2012 in Fenway! Would be a great way to celebrate to 100 years!

Hey Mark – thanks for the shout out in your article! I’m trying to comment on the liveblog – but either it’s overloaded or it’s having problems uploading comments. I’m watching the NHL game from Wrigley Field right now – it was so cool watching the hockey players touch home plate on their way out to the ice!

Happy New Year!
