Spheroid: Armchair Angel
Like Jered Weaver, our friend Sheed has kind of burst onto the MLBlogs scene lately with Armchair Angel. One of his first official acts was to tell you more about himself here and to talk about his favorite blogs, so hopefully everyone will join him over at that MLBlog and email us with your own replies to these questions. Onto today’s featured Spheroid, and just click the category link to the right if you’d like to see all of the previous ones:
Why did you sign up for an MLBlog?
I read the article on SI.com about Kellia’s Life, Baseball & Eric Byrnes blog and realized an MLBlog was the perfect excuse to get out to as many ballgames as possible this and every subsequent summer.
What is your favorite team and why?
The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, their new plastic name notwithstanding. Orange County born and bred, baby.
What is your favorite thing about blogging?
Unlike my gig writing half-time for a major Utah newspaper, on my blog I can rant and opine without fear of censure. And it’s a two-way street: By venting on the blog, I’m now a much more mellow fellow when I write for the fishwrap.
Favorite blog, including at least one MLBlog:
Buster Olney’s baseball blog on the ESPN website is an in-season must-read, necessary to stay fully aprised of the goings-on of all 30 MLB teams. As for fellow MLBlogs, props to Angels Mania, Inside the Dodgers, Prince of New York, Major League Ballhawk, Talented Mr. Roto’s Daily Propaganda, and Daddy Raised a Cardinals Fan.
Your most memorable Major League moment(s):
(Tie) Being at the ballpark for Game 6 of the 2002 World Series: from utter despair to sheer jubilation in under an hour. And, as a 10-year old back in 1989, watching Devon White steal second, third, and home all in the same frame and (to the horror of both my parents) celebrating the accomplishment by high-fiving the drunk dude in the aisle smoking a non-filter.
What would you be doing if you weren’t blogging?
Sleeping, thinking about sleeping, watching Sesame Street with my 19-month old daughter, or sleeping.
Last item you bought at the MLB.com Shop:
St. Louis Cardinals Authentic Cap w/2004 World Series Logo. When they lowered the price to $6 last month, I quickly snapped up four of them (size 8, of course) and rationalized the fact that it wasn’t Halos gear by reminding myself what a big La Russa fan I am.
Who is your favorite MLB player?
It could be any number of Angels, but I’ll go with Garrett Anderson because he’s my wife’s favorite player. Wifey isn’t too into sports if y’know what I mean, so when she goes absolutely bonkers every time G.A. steps to the plate it’s a special moment in my world.
Happiness is . . .
Green grass, wood bats, sunflower seeds, and a large Diet Coke with no ice.
