The Launch Post
It has been an extraordinary first week at MLBlogs.com. To mess with Gulliver’s Travels a bit, it has even been kind of Blogdingnagian. As big as you could possibly conceive, with MLBlogs being created by fans constantly. You can have a blog with the look and feel of Major League Baseball and its 30 clubs for $4.95 a month (30-day free trial) or $49.95 a year.
It is almost as much fun to watch where all of this is going as it is to create your own MLBlog and post whenever/however you like.
MLB.com introduced MLBlogs in partnership with Six Apart, the pre-eminent blogging tools provider, and we began by assembling our own eclectic lineup of baseball bloggers to lead the way. It started with such people around the game as Dodger legend Tommy Lasorda, Brewers broadcaster Daron Sutton and MLB groundskeeping guru Murray Cook, as well as bloggers from inside the MLB.com world and from other walks of life.
On May 4, Hall of Famer Brooks Robinson launched his own MLBlog. So did an HBO screenwriter and a couple of former U.S. Army sergeants who have gone from two tours of Iraq to the Ballpark Tour of Duty. And the fun part is seeing it all mixed together in one giant blog-a-sphere (that’s how we punctuate it around here). Keep an eye on the "Look Who’s Blogging Now" panel on the MLBlogs.com index page, and you will see not only our own All-Star crew of bloggers but also selected blogs that you created.
The more you explore MLBlogs, the more ideas you will get from your fellow fans about maximizing the potential of these. It has been interesting to see the different way MLBlogs are used. Some fans use them as a marketing tool to drive more people to their other blogs. Some people maintain a wide variety of blogs, and this one fills the daily need to just talk baseball. One fan went to a free polling site and dropped a poll into his latest text entry.
Keep an eye out here for more news about the Blogdingnagian world of MLBlogs.com. It’s an official affiliate of MLB.com, with unofficial opinions. And every baseball fan has opinions to share.
